I've practiced yoga for around 40 years. No practice has affected me more deeply than Tsa Lung Trul Khor. I experience a spontaneous uprising of gentle joy, and clarity. Rob brings his sincerity, devotion, and his own personal practice when he teaches. This helps deepen my own practice.

what are the Channel & Wind Exercises?

Ancient Techniques for Wholistic Living

The ancient yogis of Tibet lived in remote places devoted to the pursuit of self-knowledge and enlightenment. Often they had to care for their body, health and mind without doctors and medicine. Tsa Lung was one of their "medicines". These practices are an amazing form of self-care handed down for generations.

Easy to learn and easy to fit into your lifestyle, these practices can benefit everyone, from advanced athletes to couch potatoes.

Five Movements

With one movement for each section of the body: the head, the chest, the belly, the limbs, and the pelvic bowl, the Tsa Lung practice can:

  • Revitalize us when sleepy or tired

  • Relax us when too energized or stressed

  • Enhance clarity and awareness

  • Increase mobility of the joints

  • Loosen restrictions of the breath

  • Create a stable seat for meditation

Five Winds (Energies)

Each movement works with one of the winds, or subtle energies of the mind-body continuum.

  • The upward moving wind clears and grounds the senses and thoughts

  • The life-force wind governs our general health, sense of well being and open-heartedness

  • The fire-like wind generates power to digest food, emotions and experience. It is our inner joy and enthusiasm

  • The pervasive wind supports the power of movement - of the body and forward into our life path

  • The downward clearing wind gives birth to our creativity and our capacity to eliminate what does not serve us

FAQ

Tsa Lung Questions and Answers

Why should I try this practice?

In our busy lives, we can become so disconnected from ourselves! We don't listen to the body, we live in our thoughts, and we haven't learned to work with the breath to optimize wellbeing. Plus, we are busy and want fast results. The five movements of Tsa Lung restore these connections to bring us many benefits - physically, spiritually, and mentally. And they are fast to learn and easy to practice. You can do the five movements in just a few minutes if that's all the time you have.

What does Tsa Lung mean?

Tsa means "channels", and Lung means "wind". These are movements of the channels and the winds. Our channels are our arteries and veins, they are our nervous system, and they are the subtle anatonmy through which the awareness moves through the body. The winds are the dynamic energy or qualities that we experience in different regions of the body and areas of our life. For example, in the head we find the upward moving wind. It is what animates our senses of the eyes, ears, nose and tongue, and it is what moves our thoughts. When we bring our focused attention to what is alive within us, to the movement of the wind and any imbalances in our perceptions and thoughts, we can then work with the movements to clear and rebalance them.

I already practice yoga. How is this different?

Tibetan yoga, including the Tsa Lung practices in this course, is specifically designed to work with the physical body, our energy (prana|chi|lung) , the mind and the breath. Each movement focuses on a specific part of the body, the corresponding energy, and related qualities. Also, unlike other systems, the breath is held during the exercise and released only at the end of the movement. While the movements are a physical practice, they really are much more an energetic practice than a physical one.

What are your qualifications to teach tsa lung?

I've been studying movement-based meditation for over twenty years and have taught more than 1,700 yoga classes in person and online. In 2010 I began to focus on the art of tsa lung trul khor, the magical movements of the Tibetan Bön Buddhist tradition. I've participated in a 1-year and two 3-year training programs and have authorization to teach these practices from my teachers Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, Geshe Chaphur Rinpoche, and Alejandro Chaoul. I have taught these practices to hundreds of students at in-person retreats and am excited now to bring them to you online. You can read more about me on my bio page.
